Hi, I’m Bailey Rae!
I’m an Iowa farm girl living in Nashville, with a never-ending appetite and a love for growing veggies! I came into this world loving food! There was hardly anything I wouldn’t eat as a child. On the farm, meat was the main course, especially since my daddy raised livestock, but I always preferred an extra serving of mashed potatoes in place of the the pork chop. I loved vegetables then, as much as I do now!
Cooking is my therapy – seriously. I freaking love it! I remember receiving my first cookbook when I was 8 years old. That was when little chef Bailey Rae was born. In the summer I would make lunch for my parents, going to the garden to pick green beans, asparagus, lettuce, whatever was in season. If I wasn’t at home in the kitchen, I would take my go-cart a mile down the dirt road to my grandmothers, where we would bake something sweet!
Both my mother and grandmother planted beautiful and bountiful gardens on the farm, so growing my own food was instilled in me at a young age.
Now, my whole life revolves around vegetables! If I am not working on a new recipe, I have my hands in the dirt with my man, working on our urban garden, shopping at the farmers market, exploring local farms, feeding friends veggie creations, or trying new veggie dishes at local restaurants.
I am crazy passionate about spreading the plant-based love. I became plant-based for my health initially; I wanted to lose a few extra pounds. After watching documentaries and reading a few books, I decided eliminating animal products was the way to go for me. I stumbled along the way, but found a groove and fell in love with the plant-based lifestyle. I started The Local Vegan to help you find your love for veggies!
I am here for you! If you have any questions for me, or need advice about something, please comment here on the blog, or email me over on the contact page.
